Dear Church Family,
Today’s update will be briefer than usual because of our meeting tonight when we will be remembering Christ’s sacrifice for our sins. We will be missing several elements to that service that we have come to find a blessing. The singing will surely be missed and the varied readers, as well. The Lord’s Supper is another part of the service that we must forego.
While some are choosing to hold that meal virtually, I believe it would be unwise to do so, especially when it comes to the suggestion to have a global observance. We need to remember that every idea of how God might be worshipped that springs into the mind of humanity is not necessarily a good one, no matter how sincere the effort may be in coming up with that idea. It is the Lord’s prerogative to dictate His own worship.
The Scripture documents the disastrous results when men and women begin to apply their imagination in conjuring up ways that God may enjoy being worshipped by His creatures. Great caution should be exercised in these matters and especially when they are introduced by someone saying that they have a “word” from God on the matter.
We have the Word of God already and it is sufficient, in itself, for all such things.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
That being said, we can gather tonight around the Word of God and I hope you will join us as we review the biblical record of the fall of humanity and the promise and work of God in redemption through the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior.
The live stream will begin, Lord willing, at 7 PM.
Dear Lord, bless Your people today according to the great promises of Your Word. Lord prosper the work of Your Kingdom in every heart that You have made Your own, and let the Gospel go forth with power. Father, on this day when we remember the sacrifice of the Son; continue to bring to nothing the works of darkness and advance against Your enemies, bringing life and light to a dark and dying world. Gather to Yourself a rich harvest of souls, sending out Your Spirit to convict and give repentance—to turn the eyes of men, women and children from self and sin to Salvation, from the world to Christ.
Almighty God heal the sick in body and soul according to Your gracious will. Protect the weak, frustrate the wicked, make wise the simple and confound the proud, humble mankind and glorify Yourself.
Bless us by Your Word tonight and receive our thanksgiving, and hear our prayers for Christ’s sake, Amen.
